GIVE BLOOD Many generous Americans nationwide have been donating blood since the terrorist attacks September 11 to ensure a sustained
and secure blood supply for all Americans. Together with the Red Cross, these blood heroes are ensuring that the safest possible blood is readily available whenever and wherever needed - for the
military, for other blood centers in America and for all 5,000 of America's hospitals.
We all expect blood to be there for us, but barely a fraction of those who can give
do. Yet sooner or later, virtually all of us will face a time of great vulnerability in which we will need blood. And that time is all too often unexpected. From its
beginning, the American Red Cross has formed a community of service, of generous, strong and decent people bound by beliefs beyond themselves. The honor, spirit
and resources of the American people comes forth with neighbors helping neighbors in need - during earthquakes, floods, fires, storms - and also for the deeply
personal and often quiet disasters that require a gift of blood.
To schedule a blood donation, call the Rhode Island Blood Center at 1-800-283-8385.

BE A TISSUE DONOR Did you know that just one tissue donor can potentially benefit as many as 50
people? It's true. When you sign on to become a donor, your generous gift could bring many people new life.
Thanks to people like you, 600,000 lives have been enhanced since the
establishment of American Red Cross Tissue Services in 1982. However, the need for tissue continues to grow, and tissue such as skin for burn patients and certain
sizes of heart valves for cardiac patients is in high demand.
We need your help.
Becoming a tissue donor is simple, two-step process. First, sign a donor card or
driver's license; second, share your decision with your family, because next of kin is always asked for consent. There is no cost to you or your family. All costs related
to tissue donation are paid for by the agency recovering the tissue.

DONATE GOODS The worst moments often bring out the best in people. Disasters such as
hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes often ignite an outpouring of generosity from individuals and communities who are moved to assist those whose lives have been
affected. The images of devastation prompt many to respond by donating goods for the victims. Donations of goods and services, also known as in-kind donations, can be valuable resources on a relief effort.
In-kind donations are always welcome, whether you are a citizen who wishes to
make an in-kind donation of household items, a manufacturer or distributor that has a large bulk donation that would be appropriate for Red Cross relief efforts, or a
company that is interested in making a bulk donation of medical supplies or equipment.
Because the American Red Cross of Rhode Island is not set up to handle and store
in-kind donations, we urge you to contact any of the following agencies to arrange
your donation:
For any questions regarding donating goods, please contact Angie Moncada, Director of Communications & Special Events, at [email protected] or call 401-831-7700 x101.
VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME! Each year over one million Americans serve as Red Cross volunteers serving local
community needs - helping people in emergencies, providing half the nation's blood supply, teaching first aid and CPR courses, delivering emergency messages to
members of the military, organizing programs for the elderly and for youth.
Red Cross volunteers work directly with people, serve on boards of directors, serve
as managers, advisors, and provide behind the scenes support.
Be a Red Cross volunteer! Helping others feels good, and helps you feel good about
yourself. The American Red Cross of Rhode Island can work with you to provide rewarding experiences, opportunities to utilize your talents, or provide training to help you serve your community.
