Sail for Hope
Location: Newport, RI
This event -- a race around Newport island -- was established in 2001, in the wake of the September 11th attacks, to help those families who lost loved ones. At that time it was called "Sail for Pride" and raised over $110,000 for 9/11 charities. The event has now become an annual tradition called "Sail for Hope," and raises thousands of dollars for local charities, including the American Red Cross of Rhode Island.
