RI responds overwhelmingly to $10,000 tsunami
relief challenge match offered by Taco, Inc. and The John and Happy White Foundation -- The American Red Cross, RI Chapter has raised $235,000 to date for international relief efforts
Rhode Islanders have responded overwhelmingly to the recent $10,000 challenge match from John
Hazen White, Jr. of Taco, Inc. and The John and Happy White Foundation. On December 30th, Mr. White offered to match up to $10,000 worth of local donations coming in to the American Red Cross, RI
Chapter to assist with relief efforts for victims of the tsunami in southern Asia. Donations poured in over the weekend and the challenge match was met on Monday with over $60,000 raised in response to Mr.
White's challenge match. To date, the American Red Cross, RI Chapter has raised over $235,000 to aid in relief efforts in southern Asia.
"The generosity of Rhode Islanders has been amazing", stated Daniel Samborn, CEO of the
American Red Cross, RI Chapter. "This challenge match really encouraged the public to donate, knowing their dollar would be doubled, thanks to people like John Hazen White, Jr."
People wanting to help those affected by the tsunami/earthquake in South Asia and countless other crises around the world each
year may make a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies,
