 MISSION
The American Red Cross of Rhode Island is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that
provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its
congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross and the International Red Cross Movement.
In FY 2004, the American Red Cross of Rhode Island responded to 202 fires and other emergencies and
provided 1,245 individuals (382 families) with emergency food, clothing and shelter assistance. The RI Red Cross taught 19,411 Rhode Islanders how to save a life and
taught 2,961 Rhode Islanders how to swim or become a lifeguard. All Red Cross assistance is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode
Islanders in crisis. Every dollar you give stays in RI to help your friends and neighbors.
