The Red Cross will hand-deliver the donated kits to each Rhode Island soldier who is being deployed overseas.
The CVS Comfort Kits contain many personal items that soldiers will find useful once they are on duty in the Gulf region,
including soap, razors, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and pain relievers. The products were selected with input from both the American Red Cross and the Rhode Island Army
National Guard. A total of almost 19,000 individual items make up the 1,700 Comfort Kits.
All of us at CVS are very proud of our local National Guard and Army Reserve troops who are serving our nation during these
uncertain times, said Jack Kramer, Senior Vice President of CVS/pharmacy. We hope these Comfort Kits will remind our deployed Rhode Island troops of the support they have here at home. We look forward to
their safe return, along with the return of all of our armed forces deployed overseas.
With record numbers of troops being deployed locally, providing a Comfort Kit to every soldier was becoming a major
financial hardship for the Red Cross, Barbara E. McGann, CEO, American Red Cross of Rhode Island, said. CVS has really come to the rescue in supplying these kits and the Red Cross is deeply grateful for
their generosity and partnership in this project.
Also supporting this effort is the ARC of Northern Rhode Island, a non-profit human service agency that provides support and
services for people with developmental disabilities, which donated their time and manpower to assemble each of the 1,700 CVS Comfort Kits.
