Thursday, May 26, 2005 AMERICAN RED CROSS RHODE ISLAND CHAPTER
WELCOMES ANGIE MONCADA, NEW DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS & SPECIAL EVENTS
(May 26, 2005 - Providence, RI) The American Red Cross Rhode Island Chapter welcomes Angie
Henderson Moncada as its new Director of Communications & Special Events. Moncada brings to the organization almost a decade of leadership in non-profit and educational settings.
Most recently, she served on the public relations team at Miami International University of Art &
Design, a member of the Art Institutes family of schools. In this capacity, she worked to increase the profile of the university through media and community relations efforts. In the first quarter of
2005 alone, Moncada's team was responsible for over $1 million in publicity value through print and broadcast media placements. She also identified and established mutually beneficial partnerships with
local organizations and civic leaders, including the International Rescue Committee and the office of the mayor of the City of Miami, to enhance organization's community interaction and presence
through events both on and off the university's campus.
Her vision for the American Red Cross Rhode Island Chapter includes increasing the
visibility of the life-saving work of the organization and its volunteers. "From disaster and emergency services to health and safety training classes to Armed
Forces Emergency Services, our mission is to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies for over a million Rhode Islanders." Moncada says. "I am committed to
making sure everyone in our increasingly diverse state knows about what we do. My ultimate goal is to increase the number of people who benefit from and participate in our services."
Community partnerships are also an important part of what Moncada aims to
accomplish in her new role. "To accomplish our mission, we rely on the support of local businesses and volunteers," she emphasizes. "I look forward to working with a
wide variety of members of our community in new and exciting ways."
Fluent in Spanish, Moncada holds a master of arts degree in International
Administration with a specialization in Public Relations from the University of Miami as well as a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Georgia. She
has also volunteered for many years as an English tutor in immigrant and refugee communities.
