Thursday, June 2, 2005 RED CROSS ASSISTS MULTIPLE FAMILIES
INVOLVED IN 2 SEPARATE FIRES
(Providence, RI – June 2, 2005) The American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter responded to two fires
today assisting a total of 14 people.
Red Cross volunteers first responded to a three-family house fire in Providence at 1:00 a.m.. A
total of 7 adults and 2 children were affected. The Red Cross provided food and shelter to the victims.
While over 50 Red Cross volunteers were at the APEX 2005 drill at the T.F. Green airport this
morning, a team of volunteers was called to a single-family fire in South Kingstown. One family was affected, including 1 adult and 1 child; the Red Cross provided food and clothing to assist them.
The RI Chapter typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
