RED CROSS ASSISTS 2 IN NEWPORT HOUSE FIRE
(Providence, RI – June 8, 2005) The American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter responded last night to
a fire in a single family home on Broadway in Newport.
Red Cross volunteers responded to the fire around 8:00 p.m., providing food, clothing and shelter to 2
adults, both in their seventies.
The RI Chapter typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
