Tuesday, August 2, 2005 RED CROSS AWARDED RHODE ISLAND
FOUNDATION, AMICA GRANTS FOR DISASTER SERVICES (August 2, 2005 – Providence, RI) The American Red
Cross Rhode Island Chapter has recently been awarded two grants totaling $6,000 to support its disaster services.
The Rhode Island Foundation awarded $5,000 to the
chapter on July 22, 2005 via its Rosa Anne Grosvenor Fund. Through its Basic Human Needs program, the Rhode Island Foundation supports agencies that provide
food, clothing, housing, prescription, and utility assistance to Rhode Island residents most in need.
The Amica Companies Foundation, based in Lincoln, RI, awarded the chapter $1,000
on July 15, 2005 on behalf of Robert A. DiMuccio for Rhode Island Disaster Services.
"The support our chapter receives from local funders is essential to our continued
ability to provide services to Rhode Islanders in their moments of greatest need," says chapter CEO Dan Samborn. "We are truly grateful that the Amica Companies
Foundation and the Rhode Island Foundation continue to recognize our work and contribute to its ongoing success."
From July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2005, the American Red Cross Rhode Island Chapter
provided disaster assistance to 1,321 people, and over $220,000 in aid was delivered by chapter volunteers who contributed well over 17,000 hours of volunteer service.
