Wednesday, August 27, 2003 RI Red Cross responds to Union Avenue fire
Rhode Island Red Cross volunteers were on scene at a house fire at 470 Union Avenue in Providence this
morning. Two families were displaced—4 adults and 5 children. The children ranged in ages from 8 weeks to 6 years old. The RI Red Cross emergency vehicle was on scene and immediately dispensed baby
blankets, diapers and other infant necessities. Both families received food, shelter and clothing assistance from the RI Red Cross.
The Red Cross of Rhode Island typically spends $1,000 per family of four that it assists. All Red Cross assistance is free,
thanks to contributions from individuals and organizations. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on private donations to provide emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in crisis.
