COMMUNITY HEROES

The Community Heroes Award, presented by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the American Red Cross of Rhode Island, is a program designed to recognize the good works of "everyday people," to reward their good deeds, and to encourage people to help their neighbors. We need your help to make it a success!

 DO YOU KNOW A COMMUNITY HERO?

Do you know someone who has made a significant, positive impact on an individual, a family, an organization or an entire community? Someone who exemplifies the spirit of caring and giving in our community? You can nominate this person for a Community Heroes Award!

This person, young or old, may be a volunteer or a professional, such as an EMT or a Firefighter. A Community Hero may have performed a one-time heroic act such as saving someone from a fire or may be involved in an ongoing effort such as regularly visiting a nursing home or volunteering as a youth mentor.

As a Community Hero, he or she will receive:

• Recognition at a Community Heroes Breakfast Celebration.
• A framed certificate and an official letter of congratulations.
• An invitation to the end-of-year reception, honoring all "Community Heroes" selected over the year.
• Recognition in local newspapers, on local television and on the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and American Red Cross of Rhode Island websites.

 SELECTION CRITERIA

The Community Heroes Award recognizes everyday heroes of any age who:

• Have made a significant, positive impact on an individual, family, organization, or entire community, either as a one-time act or an ongoing effort;
• Have made a contribution to the community as an individual, or as part of a larger organization (civic organization, fire department, school club, etc.);
• Are volunteers or paid workers (except employees of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and paid employees of the American Red Cross of Rhode Island);
• Live or work in Rhode Island.

 NOMINATION GUIDELINES

Nominations for the Community Heroes Award are accepted on an ongoing basis with awards given monthly.

Every nomination is given equal consideration; however, there is a limit of one nomination per entry. The nominations are reviewed and the honorees are selected by a review panel.
